Public Sector Car Fleet of the Year

Awarding the UK public sector organisation that can demonstrate excellent progress in its journey to a zero-emission fleet through the adoption to electric cars and other innovative measures to decarbonise.

2023 Winner: Police Scotland

Police Scotland has 1,025 Ultra Low Emission Vehicles on its fleet, which makes up 30 per cent of the overall fleet. It also has  738 fully electric vehicles and plans are already underway to increase this during 2023/24 financial year. Police Scotland will continue to test and assess new ultra-low emission vehicles coming on to the market to ensure it purchases the correct vehicles that meet the requirements of specific policing needs.  Over the past three years, Police Scotland has reduced diesel consumption from 5.7million litres in 2020/21 to 3.8 million litres in 2022/23. This equates to a projected gross reduction in carbon emissions of over 4,000 tCO2e. To date Police Scotland has installed 394 charging outlets completed across 37 sites which consists of fast, rapid and ultra rapid charging units. This facilitates the charging for 1182 electric vehicles. Phase one is likely to see completion by December 2023 providing over 400 charging outlets supporting up to 1,200 EVs.
